The Wedding, Part 2 (Main event!!)

On the morning of Friday 8 December I went to Vauxhall to collect a 15 seater minibus. They gave me a 17 seater minibus (with no extra charge). It was not that difficult to drive, quite heavy so I had to drive slower and therefore it was quite stable. There were 10 adults and 1 child (plus lots of luggage and a wedding cake) going to Swindon where Chester and Amy's wedding was to be held.

We set of at about 11 am, going straight to Chester's house in Devizes. There was a little family reunion had lunch there. It was also great to see Max, my chinchilla (pic left) again. She looked much bigger as she has been spoilt with good food and company staying with Chester and Amy. Late afternoon, Chester and all of his side of the family went to Swindon to check into the hotel. The wedding was to be held at Stanton House Hotel.

Saturday 9 December 2006 was the wedding of Chester and Amy Chan. The registry ceremony was at 12:30 pm. The ceremony went smoothly. Apart from the usual vows, Amy's best friend (and bridesmaid) and her brother sang a lovely song and Amy's mom read a poem. After that there were photos and drinks. About 2:30pm, we had lunch (actually called wedding breakfast). The starter was served to us but the main course was a lovely buffet. There was a variety of fare, from sushi to fried chicken. Here we see the bride and groom inspecting the fare before we can start eating! Dessert was also buffet style with about 5 or 6 different varieties of dessert.

There was the usual speech by the bride's father, the groom and the best man. They were all very good and amusing. The couple then thanked those who have helped (parents, bridesmaids, best man, ushers), including me, the cakemaker. They gave me a huge bunch of flowers. After the meal was over, there was the cake cutting ceremony, followed by coffee and cake. That was at about 5:30 pm. Many of us who were staying at the hotel went back to our rooms for a break. I went back to catch the semi finals of Strictly Come Dancing!!

At 7pm, we came down for the evening event. This was held in an annex to the hotel. There was a dancefloor and finger food was served.

We discovered that Dex is indeed a disco king! (pic left) He took immediately to the dancefloor, joining some children who were already there. His "koh-koh"s (big brothers - one of them Amy's stepmother's son, and the other Amy's sister's boyfriend's son) were there to dance with and he learnt to groove! He danced for almost 3 hours, stopping only to drink water and also to have some egg mayonnaise sandwich (his favourite). Earlier in the day he promised my aunt that he will dance with her. When he spotted my aunt and he held her hands and dragged her to the dancefloor to dance with her! It was so sweet that he remembered! By 10 pm he was quite tired and so his mom took him up to bed.

We (some friends and relatives) sat around a table chatting (though I did go dancing for a bit). I stayed until the end when the music stopped. It was a lovely wedding indeed. It was very well organised. The wedding package at the hotel came with a wedding planner and the toastmaster who made sure that everything ran smoothly and on time. It also felt very relaxing because we stayed at the hotel where everything happened so we can pop up to our rooms if needed, and there was no need to go out in the cold or travel to get somewhere. Thank you Chester and Amy for organising a great day and best wishes to you in your life together!

Here is a picture of me, pretty in pink with my cake.
